Dark Days Are Here, How To Overcome
Psalm 1:1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.
Compromise begins when we walk with the wicked. As we grow accustom to compromising we start to discard our godly values until we stand on the path of sinners. Standing still in the darkness of sin, darkness becomes our normal and so sitting down with scoffers is not that big of a step. This means we entered into a close relationship with them, as in, marriage or close friendship.
This Psalm 1:1-6 begins by telling us how to be happy. It is explained in the negative and then in the positive.
Happiness is not found being influenced and guided by the ways of the ungodly. Then we are told, happiness is found in the practice of reading, studying, and praying to understand God's word for influence and guidance.
What About Godly Delight?
When we read and study God's word we are drinking Living Water (John 4:4-26, John 7:37-39) which will produce fruit (Galatians 5:22:23). So, when the storms of life come, we will not dry up and shrivel but we will be kept by Christ to stand strong in His strength.
Why is knowing God and Jesus as the Christ the most important thing in life?
Because there is a difference between the godly and ungodly. What is the difference? The ungodly do not possess true happiness. They do not produce fruit God will accept and they will not have courage on the day of judgment because they will face their future of eternal punishment.
Today the Christian faith is under attack across the globe. We are making our way back to the persecution that was experienced at the birth of the church. We are making our way back to a society that is dominated by worshipping pagan gods, mainly humanism.
This Psalm does not promise an easy and trouble free life as a Christian. God is telling us there are distinguishing differences between the godly and ungodly.
This world is not our home or friend
Jesus puts this plainly;
John 15:18 “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.
Societies as a whole are getting darker, hatred toward God is getting stronger and more aggressive everywhere.
Ask yourself, is your fruit any different from the fruit of the world? Will you stand strong or will you fade away?
