Don't Worry

Don't worry sounds so simple but we all know it is not because it is "easier said than done" when we are worrying about something or someone. We even go so far as to worry about the what ifs and things that never happen. Well, for me I became determined to take a different route over worry. Don't get me wrong, worry and fear still come but I go to God's word and challenge my thoughts and feelings.

Numbers 23:19Numbers 23:19 HCSB God is not a man who lies, or a son of man who changes His mind. Does He speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?

Hebrews 6:17 NCV God wanted to prove that his promise was true to those who would get what he promised. And he wanted them to understand clearly that his purposes never change, so he made an oath. 18 These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when he makes a promise, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath. These things encourage us who came to God for safety. They give us strength to hold on to the hope we have been given.

The faithfulness of God is an anchor of hope for our soul (v19). This reminds us God must keep His promises. God can not lie, not He will not lie. Jesus said, I AM the Truth meaning there is no lie in Him.

Psalm 55:22 ESV Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

1 Peter 5:6 ESV Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Pray to stop being God and position yourself under Him. That is pray for the courage to cast your worries upon God, to believe He cares about you, and do not stop until you can no longer be shaken.

Philippians 4:4 ESV Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I have memorized these verses, not that I set out to, but I have read them and held tight to them so much I found them embedded in my heart. They have helped me retain my sanity.

1) Rejoice always in the Lord. What a challenge. How polar opposite of the world ways. This takes LOTS of time and practice because we must learn our joy is in our Lord Jesus Christ alone. There are times this is so difficult, that for me I read praise Psalms with the determination to turn from my feelings and embrace God's word.

2) Worry is not only doubt and sin but it is non gratitude. So when we rejoice and praise God we are giving thanks for Him, Who He is, and are confident He will meet our needs.

3) Once the peace of God has you stable and reassured, though you still may not understand the why, the peace in Christ will guard your heart and mind. I have experienced this peace in a life and death situation and there are no words to describe how loved and secure we are in Christ.

In the end

In Romans 8:26-28 we find the work of the Holy Spirit. Imagine, God- the Father wants to take care of us, God- the Son guards us and prays for us, and God- Holy Spirit prays for us and works in us. We are to pray constantly but really we don't have a clue so the Holy Spirit prays for what we need and offers our prayers as they are to be offered. Our prayer is to praise God and express our gratitude (v26-27).

Be confident in God and His deep love for you. As an obedient child of God, stand firm He will take your worse nightmare and turn it into good for you. I know this is true. I don't know how but when we lean on Him He changes our heart and outlook on horrible injustices that are done. The Father's love melts our heart of stone, the Sons sacrifice opens up the way to the Fathers love, and the Holy Spirit works out what was put in because we were called for the purpose and plan of God.

I do not enjoy suffering or trials but I do know the joy that awaits when we come out the other side having been drawn closer to our loving Lord Jesus Christ. None of this is easy but when we discipline our mind to focus on God and our heart holds full affection to God, life is lived on purpose toward God.

Matthew 11:28 AMP "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light."

Our flesh only knows the ease of outside things but our mind and emotions will not allow us to rest. Jesus Christ gives true rest to our soul.
