Truth About Jesus - I AM The Bread Of Life Part 4
Bible - Written word of God | Jesus - Living word of God
In Exodus 3:13, Moses ask God, what name should I tell the people of Israel when they ask "Who sent you to us." God says to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM."
H.E. Gowan, Studies in the Sacred Name;
"Perhaps the vast possibilities implied can be more fully grasp if we give the verb - as is now done by most scholars - a future since: I WILL BE THAT I WILL BE.
Herbert Lockyer, All the Messianic Prophecies (pg 40)
"In our pre-existent, pre-eminent Lord, we have the promise of strength, counsel, protection, provision, guidance, and thousand other possessions."
God declared I AM & Jesus declared
John 7:29 - AMP I know Him Myself because I am from Him [I came from His very presence] and it was He [personally] who sent Me."
John 16:28 NASB I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father."
John 17:24 NASB Father, I desire those You have given Me to be with Me where I am. Then they will see My glory, which You have given Me because You loved Me before the world's foundation.
I came from heaven, God My Father sent Me and God, My Father loved Me before the world was created.
Jesus is stating
I AM the Living Word. I always existed with God, I AM God.
There are seven I AM statements made by Jesus in the book of John. Jesus came and finished the I AM statement in seven different pictures.
As we do this, pray the Holy Spirit will;
Ephesians 1:16 HCSB 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. 18 I pray that the perception of your mind may be enlightened so you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the glorious riches of His inheritance among the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power to us who believe, according to the working of His vast strength.
John 6:35 HCSB "I am the bread of life," Jesus told them. "No one who comes to Me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in Me will ever be thirsty again.
The below definitions are to help you understand Who Jesus is to a believer.
Bread - 740 - artos-properly bread; (figuratively) divine provision, all the sustenance God supplies to yielded believers scene-by-scene to live in His preferred will.
an act of will - 2307 - thelema (from 2309/thelo, "to desire, wish)- properly, a desire (wish), often referring to God's "preferred will," i.e. His "best-offer" to people which can be accepted or rejected
I will - 2309/thelo - ("to desire, wish") is commonly used of the Lord extending His "best-offer" to the believer-wanting (desiring) to birth His persuasion (faith) in them which also empowers, manifests His presence etc. (All definitions from HELPS Word-studies)
1. Our "divine provision" to live in the will of God
2. The will of Jesus is active and He offers His excellence which can be accepted or rejected
3. Jesus extends out to believers His excellence to birth faith which empowers the believer and manifests His presence
Jesus has one goal to do the will of His Father and please Him. Through faith in Jesus Christ believers will have the same goal.
The people who were following Jesus in John chapter six saw things different. They followed Him to have their belly fed not their soul. They did not see the excellence of Jesus nor were they looking for the will of God. John chapter six gives us a good picture of those who follow Jesus for worldly and fleshly gain.
John 6:30 NASB "What sign then are You going to do so we may see and believe You?" they asked. "What are You going to perform? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat." 32 Jesus said to them, "I assure you: Moses didn't give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the real bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the One who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." 34 Then they said, "Sir, give us this bread always!" 35 "I am the bread of life," Jesus told them. "No one who comes to Me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in Me will ever be thirsty again.
The people saw it as Moses gave them bread from heaven not God and they wanted Jesus to either give them the power to create bread or create the food for them always. Jesus opposesses their view and tells them, Moses did not give you bread from heaven, My Father gives the "true bread out of heaven." At this point Jesus tells them, I Am the bread of life. I am the true bread from heaven.
Why do we need the bread of life?
Ecclesisates 3:11 HSCB He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also put eternity in their hearts, but man cannot discover the work God has done from beginning to end.
God has put into the heart of every person, eternity. Everyone searches for their purpose, a way to be satisfied and content. But satisfaction remains elusive or is temporary when the solution is found in mankind and the ways of the world. Without Christ Jesus as Lord we eat the "bread" of the world, Satan, and our flesh. What we are eating is death.
Ephesians 2:1 NASB And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
We are all born spiritually dead and disobedient to God. We live according to the lies of Satan and the flesh which is death. How do we come to the "bread that has come down from heaven?" How do we move out from under being a slave to Satan, world, and sin?
John 14:6 NASB Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Our heart is a liar and wicked above all else. Our heart chases that which does not satisfy and is a bottomless pit of want. Through faith in Jesus Christ we are given a new heart. God gives a heart that loves and longs for His word. Jesus is the way from eternal death to eternal life. Jesus the Christ, the great I AM, the Bread of Life, God is life.
God said, I AM is My name. Jesus said, I AM and when you believe in Me and see Me you see God.
John 10:30 NASB I and the Father are one."
Do you know Jesus the Christ is God wrapped in flesh that walked on earth?
